Please show an example of a fight between two top tier opponents who did nothing but stand and trade. No ducking, no slipping, no blocking, just round after round, a full three minutes of trading. No movement, nothing but punches for the duration.

The only thing that comes close is Gatti - Ward, but I don't think anyone could call those 2 'top tier'.

Rodriguez - Wolak in their first meeting comes close too, but again, neither were top tier. And in that one, Rodriguez at least tried to box a little, it was just the pressure of Wolak made Rodriguez trade.

SO then what are you asking? Are you saying people are more entertained by hit and not get hit? Then what's the point of the thread?

Or do you just not want to acknowledge that trading shots can be entertaining so you are deflecting the argument?

Provodnikov fit fully in the type of fighters they love to watch cuz of dat, but when he's body couldn't take it anymore, this same fans screaming "tough guy" sh/t on him without thinking twice.
That's fine man, some people enjoy the technical part of the game. Just like some people like offense in football and some like defense. Some like pitching in baseball and some like home runs. It's just preference.

I like technical fighters as well, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy guys trading shots. I just hate when people like the op make like they have the ultimate opinion on what people should find enjoyable.

I was posing the question. We all know that ppv sales are generated by tapping in to casuals with limited knowledge of the sport...and each promotion is different and probably attracts different buyers. I know people who bought Floyd ppvs and called him Floyd merryweather lol...are you saying they bought the ppv cuz of their appreciation of the intricacies of the sport and floyd's boxing skills?

I think the title is misleading. He's saying it's not the smartest way to box as in, why would a gym teach their fighters to sit and trade instead of using a proper jab and defense. This should go into the training and nutrition forum if I'm being honest.

I haven't been in a lot of different gyms, but the few gyms I've been in, the coaches are very careful with the way sparring is conducted. If it's 2 new guys sparring, they'll actually get in the ring and referee it.

There's always an emphasis on jabbing, fundamentals, and proper feedback after rounds.

The only times I've seen it where it's encouraged to beat someone up in the gym, is if someone's acting like a 'tough guy' and needs to get beaten up to be put in his place.

Floyd made his money however it took godbless him. He made people root against him and took their money. Cant knock his hustle but yeah you make it sound like people watched because of his amazing defense
