Jamie didn't do a bad job, but IMO Will would have somehow added humour in scenes where it could have been done. I mean, imagine Will trotting on a horse?

It was a comedy after all, so the more I think of it, the more I think dang, Will would have been perfect.

Smith is very particular about the movies he does and doesnt do anything risque ever since he became an A list superstar. Forget seeing Smith doing anything serious or controversial. He's been done with those type of materials since Six Degreess of Separation.

There was an article that talked about Smith's prerequisites in choosing films and it has served his wallet well. It had to have aliens, cgi, or super heroes, and it had to be a blockbuster.
