Patterson did a better job in the rematch vs Ali.
I was extremely impressed with Patterson in the rematch with Ali.
He moved in and out, landing short combinations for several rounds. Ali was confused for a few rounds, but finally went after Patterson and cut him badly enough that the fight was soon stopped.

Joe Louis was awesome at beating guys worse in the rematches than he did the 1st time:

Max Schmeling (lost the 1st, but later destroyed him in 2 rds.)
Abe Simon (March 1941 13th round tko; March 1942 6th round tko)
Buddy Baer (May 1941 7th rd. DQ; Jan. 1942 1st round ko)
Jersey Joe Walcott (Dec. 1947 split dec; June 1948 11th round ko)
Billy Conn (June 1941 13th round ko; June 1946 8th round ko)
Arturo Godoy (Feb. 1940 split dec; June 1940 8th round tko)
Bob Pastor (Jan. 1937 UD; Sept. 1939 ko 11)

Other guys that were great in rematches:

    Hagler:
    Willy Monroe
    Bobby "Boogaloo" Watts
    Sugar Ray Seales
    Vito Antuofermo
    Mustafa Hamsho
    Fulgencio Obelmejias

    Lennox Lewis:
    Evander Holyfield
    Hasim Rahman
    Oliver McCall

    Sugar Ray Robinson:
    Randy Turpin
    Jake La Motta
    Gene Fullmer
    Carmen Basilio

      Ali changed tactics

In the 2nd Ali-Frazier fight Ali decided to do a lot of tying up on the inside, especially holding Frazier behind the head. Since he didn't do so much of it the 1st time they fought it surprised Frazier, who wasn't prepared for all the holding by Ali. Ali managed to win a lot of rounds by landing a lot of jabs and a few right hands and avoid taking too much punishment from Frazier on the inside. It worked, although I was disgusted.
