    "El Maestrito" Looms as Opponent

The television company Showtime seems to already have something lined up, but not officially for the Puerto Rican Juan Manuel "Juanma" López.

The undefeated featherweight champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) came close yesterday at a possible defense against the Panamanian Ricardo 'Maestrito' Cordoba, as reported yesterday in www.fi ghtnews.com.

The information was confirmed by promoter Peter Rivera, Top Rank's representative on the island and who co-promotes Lopez.

According to Rivera, it was apparently a leaked information through an official of the Top Rank and is not very far from certain.

"We can not say that this will be the next fight for 'Juanma' because this information may change do to also other names that we have submitted to the company," said Rivera.

"What we can say is that it was information that some Top Rank employee has leaked and I guess it's a preview of what might be expected in the coming days," he said.

Lopez will be active on April 16 at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico, José Miguel Agrelot at an event to be televised by Showtime.

Allegedly the company Top Rank, who is responsible for Lopez's career, made a formal offer to Córdoba, the current WBA interim Super Bantam Weight champion (122 pounds).

Cordoba, which has a record of 37-3-2(23KOs), has lost a split decision to the Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux during about in November 13 at Cowboys Stadium which was as stellar a clash between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito.

"That will give this fight also depends on us to accept. We are negotiating, but we have no confirmation that this is the fight. We like rival Cordoba as it is one of the names we submitted. Cordoba comes from losing a split decision to Rigondeaux and is one of those who beat Celestino Caballero. That is also why we chose to consider Jason Litzau (28-2, 21 KOs), "he said.

Lopez, who has a 30-0 mark with 27 Knock Outs, defeat Rafael Marquez last November 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Showtime's decision in selecting Cordoba occurs after HBO is pushing for Litzau to become the rival of the featherweight champion of the International Federation (IBF), Yuriorkis Gamboa, a fight that will be announced shortly.

Gamboa is also presented as one possible rival of Lopez in 2011.

            Cordoba is somewhat dangerous.

            Litzua is awkward.

            Juanma-Rojas

            Gamboa-John

These are the fights that should happen.

John is unreliable. So if they had Gamboa fight him, he'd likely pull out with an injury. It's some bullshit that Gamboa and Lopez aren't fighting each other because they are both looking more and more unimpressive as their fights go on it seems like. The time to make that fight was when both scored impressive KOs over Mtwaga and Luevano respectively. Now the fight has lost it's shine after Gamboa show boated his way to victory over Salido and didn't make a statement.
