Calzaghe was an irrelevant unknown with an recognised title during the period Jones was relevant. Joe didnt even make the English newspapers back then, so how on earth was Jones supposed to duck not only an irrelevance, but in a different division entirely?

Joe became relevant in 2005, by which time Jones was showing signs of being sliding into shotdom with multiple losses in a row. As joe noted in his biography - he said he would hate to end his career facing a shot guy like jones.

Its like saying Anthony Joshua is today ducking the WBF heavyweight champions (name unknown, some fat guy with big bwoobs)

to be fair Ward didnt fight one guy, bute, but beat the rest. Joe kept away from everyone or relevance for long 6 year periods at a stretch.

Joe won his first real title at 34 years age, and defended it ONCE, Ward at 25 and made multiple defences of his unified crowns. Ward beat Joes best win in his first title fight, and better. They are polar opposites.
