  • Duva vs K2, GGG vs Kovalev. How did Duva do a better job?

I think few wouldn't agree that Kovalev's promotion is doing better than GGGs. Kovalev has 3 belts and Adonis Stevenson is considered inferior by most. Kovalev got paid more for fighting Pascal than GGG has ever made. Kovalev had 2 superfights (Hopkins and Pascal) as well as got the belt from an established champion on the champions' home turf (Cleverly). GGG had none of these things.

What is Duva doing that K2 isn't? Is this all down to the different divisions they're in? Would be good to hear your thoughts.

Duva took a risk to further Kovalev's career. They took very short money to make the Hopkins fight and it's reaping its rewards now.

Golovkin's people are happy for him to feast on bums for decent pay whilst hoping for a hand out from a big PPV star. They're showing no urgency because they're getting good enough money from HBO to broadcast this mismatches.

Kovalev had names who actually have a set of balls. Golovkin doesn't.

That's really the only difference. Kovalev was very close to being in the same situation as Golovkin, and would be if Haymon hadn't played games with Hopkins. He was lucky where Golovkin is not.

        Quoted for truth.

I actually think Golovkin is the better known fighter and the bigger name amongst fans, but Kovalev has had some big name opponents willing to step up providing him with belts and, in the case of Pascal, a big payday.

MW has only had two big names in Golovkin's time there, Martinez whose promoter Di Bella steadfastly refused to make the fight, and Cotto who won't even make a fight with Canelo.

So what do you think K2 should be doing with GGG at this point? Even if he offered to do it for free, I don't think Cotto would fight him.

I agree with this. It was a mistake by Haymon - plus BHop's balls - that gave Kovalev the break he needed, not some master stroke by Duva.

GGG is better known than Kovalev in general, among us boxing fans we see Kovalev as the more accomplished out the two because he has had some legit names under his resume, GGG has some aswell but none that worth getting excited about.

                  EXACTLY!!

But the other side of it all is that Kovalev isn't really building a base. He's fighting tough away fight after tough away fight and getting paid no more than Glolovkin is.

When it's all said and done, and even now, Golovkin will be the bigger draw even though he's basically fought no worthy competition

Golovkin's still a bigger 'name'. Kovalev got his bounce from the B-Hop fight, and after that Pascal. There aren't any middleweights willing to fight Golovkin who can do the same for him.

If you take that into account, you'd probably have to say K2 have done the better job. But in truth, it's probably been as much HBO as it has been them.
