Europe would recognize a world champion and America would. Sometimes the champ could be diff. The euro champ beat the American champ.

      Vacant if I'm not mistaken.

Flyweight was in it's infancy then.

But he was the recognised world champion after that.

His "reign" was garbage though as was his general overall resume being totally underwhelming.

To consider him to be ranked above Mayweather is laughable to say the least.

Zulu was not a champ anywhere he had 3 straight losses and beat a journeyman before Wilde

Can be ranked ahead? I won't use Pacquaio because that will send people crazy but the following can and in most cases probably would (by historians at least) be ranked ahead of him (under 154 guys only)

            Sugar Ray Robinson
            Henry Armstrong
            Willie Pep
            Roberto Duran
            Eder Jofre
            Sugar Ray Leonard
            Jimmy Wilde
            Mickey Walker
            Benny Leonard
            Sandy Saddler
            Carlos Ortiz
            Pernell Whitaker
            Barney Ross
            Tommy Hearns
            Jimmy McLarnin
            Tony Canzoneri
            Kid Gavilan
            Joe Gans
            Ike Williams
            Emile Griffith
            Alexis Arguello
            Jose Napoles
            Ruben Olivares
            Julio Cesar Chavez

I'd say those 24 guys could be and probably should be ranked ahead using just fighters who fought mostly under 154. Towards the top of the list the names are more certainly ahead and more factually ahead though the list is in no real order and just off the top of the head.

If you don't know at least 22 of those names you probably aren't qualified to have a top 5 list unless it's top 5 favorites for example.
How many fights have you watched of these guys under 154lbs? Have you seen Sugar Ray Robinson before he fought middleweight? Or do you just spout off the usual nonsense acting like you have extensive knowledge of these fighters but haven't seen even 1/4 of their fights?

He was recognized by the American boxing board as their world champion. Wilde was the European and they had a fight to unify. The bout determined the lineal and one true champion in the division.

A lot of the coverage isn't available but the resumes are there and we have to trust what the reporters said about those fights, those fighters and them in a historical sense based on that.

Well yeah I do agree his title reign was a joke to be honest.

Wilde for me is easily the most overrated fighter of all time.

His resume is pretty poor in all honesty.

But also just bare in mind that if you are getting that info from Boxrec then Boxrec's info from that time a lot of the records are incomplete so may not be accurate.

But, one thing is true is that Young Zulu is no where close to a great fighter.

Lets trust a reporter because there's no way they could be bias or anything...

Yeah they are biased because they knew 80-90 years later cable would have all the fights and there'd be an internet so they would protect the fighters in those days against modern day guys.
