No of course not, we don't live in a fascist state. I told them the same thing for their own benefit. If you come to another country, it would make sense to learn the one basic thing you need in order to do everything, communicate with others.

English is pretty much the norm here, K through 12, and even at the university level.

In this system, it probably is a good idea to have a grasp on the language.

Now, I know just about 90% of this board probably is fluent in multiple languages, and gives 0% fucks about the realities about it.

But yes, if you are in this country, regardless of region, it will help if you can speak English.

This is absolutely right. I don't see anything wrong about this statement. English is the American language. You can get by speaking only spanish but if you truly want to good money and provide for your family then it is far easier learning english.
