      Many of them rocky, barren and lifeless. Most are extremely hot or extremely cold, and most either don't have an atmosphere or have a toxic atmosphere like Venus. Most are either orbiting flare stars or have erratic orbits around multiple stars. Many are gas giants like Jupiter or ice giants like Neptune.

      Consider there was simple life on earth for 3 billion years before complex life evolved. Many stars don't live more than 1 billion years. And there were many special conditions that had to exist before complex life evolved. And then it took another 550,000,000 years before intelligent life evolved (although most of us are not really so intelligent).
