Had nothing to do with his closeness to the Targaryen lineage.
The conqueror becomes the ruler. Thats the rule at play here.

The Lannisters/Tyrells/The Riverlands without a doubt have larger armies.
Then it's the Vale/Stormlands/The North with Dorne with probably the least.
