American teenagers are free to go on hating America safe in the knowledge that America will let them.
America is a good place for Americans (and Canadians, Western Europeans, Japanese, Australians, etc.) The US is engaged in all kinds of egregious acts around the world though, and this has long been the case. The American oppression is not toward its own, it is toward those disadvantaged peoples around the world that are caught up in the imperialist net. America's support of rightwing reactionary governments around the world which slaughter their own people in order to make their nations safe for American business is well documented.

You are right, American teenagers have it good. (Well, as long as they aren't inner-city blacks born to underprivileged backgrounds, or Native American in many instances, or some other exceptions). The real sharp edge of American oppression is usually overseas.

And yet is duller than the edge of oppression wielded by Russia or China.

Hard to say, really. It is certainly more effective though, so in that sense it is actually the sharper edge (I mean the American). Russian foreign policy post-WW2 was basically defensive against the US. Same goes for China. Their internal policy is different, and that was exactly my point. To get a look at American oppression requires mostly looking at America's actions overseas. (There are some internal examples--highest prison population in the world for instance. This is directed at the redundant population though, i.e. inner-city blacks.)
