  • Over 95% of traffic accidents caused by human error

About a million people in the US die per year in traffic accidents and 95% of these are caused by human error.

It's laughable when people think self-driving cars are too dangerous because the computer could "mess up."

Google has logged hundreds of thousands, probably millions of miles by now with their self-driving cars without any major incident.

Your interpretation of the statistics doesn't make any sense.

95% just means driving error is a greater cause of fatality than external factors (in a world where nearly 100% of cars are human-driven).

The variables of human driver vs robot driver aren't even being compared. We could very well find that robot driven cars experience the same 95 to 5 ratio in accidents caused by driving error vs external factors.

The quantity of Google self-driving car crashes also wouldn't matter be because you still wouldn't be comparing the same variable. You would need to compare % of Google crashes caused by driving error vs external factors.

I thought it would be higher.

Most are probably down to speeding, phone use, drink or drugs or some old fool or young punk showing off.
