Hard to imagine. The Avengers was built up so much, giving all the heroes their own movies.

Smashing box office records is not that difficult, movies cost more to attend and there are more people going each year. So money made is misleading.

Actually I was reading that, when adjusted for inflation, Avengers would still be the record holder. In addition, they broke the record for most tickets sold in an opening weekend. This is usually NOT the case for record breakers, and shows that this opening is no fluke and that the movie truly is a monster blockbuster.

BTW the official weekend total was bumped to $207.4 million; the $200.3M was just an early estimate. Even though the record for opening weekend has consistently been broken in the past half decade or so, it's never been obliterated like this. This record just may be around for a while.

It's funny because industry experts, who are usually very close or spot on with their estimations, predicted an opening weekend of around $125 million.

Why would it be hard to imagine, it's the final movie of Nolans Batman universe, that's surely enough to get people excited to see it, especially seeing how the Dark Knight was so well received.

"opening weekend numbers" mean little IMO...

the numbers that result from accumulation and sustained ability to attract audiences are better criteria IMO... (boxoffice performance)
