        "The Anchor Punch"

When people wondered what in the world made Liston drop in the rematch, the "phantom punch" was called by Muhammad Ali, "The Anchor Punch."

It's been described in all kinds of ways, and some say it was used by Marquez against Pacman. It's a speed punch from an unusual angle. One explanation:

"...it’s called the “Anchor punch” for a reason. Everyone know the shape of an anchor. When this punch is thrown it has the same mechanics of a right straight, but the arm is thrown in a C motion as if you were shooting an anchor directly at someone’s chin and your arm was to follow the outermost curve of the anchor. So the arm, shoulder, and hips are torqued back prior to the right straight, then begin to come up into the upper arc of the C, then drop down and curve throughout the rest of the anchor motion. The punch turns the hips over and really turns the shoulders over as well, giving the punch the devastating KO power we see."

        Got that?

It's a punch you don't see coming, and in the Ali fight, some still insist it also was a punch that wasn't landing. "It could not have cracked a very old and tired egg," one writer insisted.

"Marquez, a tight, technical boxer, landed his anchor punch by baiting an aggressive Pacquaio in, who tried to pursue with his jab. Marquez, craftily prepared, slipped to the outside of the jab and threw the anchor counterpunch over top."

Not to be confused with "The Anka Punch," which you simply explain by saying, "I did it my way."

          - -Tu confuso?

Ali credited Step'nFetchit for the anchor punch. Think about it >>>>>French farce.

Manny went in to KO BALCO Juan who was out on his feet. Unfortunately Manny had a typical Lefty vs Righty footwork malfunction when his lead rt foot landed on top of BJs who was anchored on the ropes. Manny now stooped sideways trying to recover his balance with hands down the perfect open Target.

BALCO Juan turned down his biggest career purse for the 5th fight, instead closing out his career fighting for peanuts.

The punch Hearns landed against Duran.
Julian Jackson almost killed Harold Graham with a single shot.
Foreman stopping Micheal Moorer with a right hand after taking a beating.
Marquez knocking Pacquiao out cold after being beat up. There are a lot of memorable one Punch knockouts.

James Butler KOing his un-gloved opponent after the fight was over will live on in infamy.

There was another fight where the apparent winner was knocked cold over the shoulder of the ref who was stopping the fight. Don't even know how to search for that one.

What sent Firpo out of the ring seemed more like a shove than a punch, by Moslem buggery...

LaMotta's right hand to Robinson's head - it sent him flying out of the ropes and he was only saved by the bell.

Also Mike Tyson's legendary combo which dropped Berbick the first time in the championship match in Round 2
