LOL not at all. If this guy was THAT good of a boxer why not go into boxing & make more money? The money in combat sports was ONLY in boxing in those days. And still to this day, while other combat sports pay better than they used to, boxing pays the most for the best guys.

I mean there is a trajectory combat sports all were on at one point that was more simplistic. I mean in boxing mfers used to more or less just stand in front of each other & hit each other. I forget the name of the first guy who used to move around & sh^t, but people accused him of cheating & sh^t iirc. Thats how nuts boxing was at one time. And these other combat sports only got modernized in the last 30 or so years realllllllly.

I guess I just thought this topic was about something else when you said boxers switched to kickboxing
& did really well. I thought you were gonna name off some 11-9 journeyman boxers or w/e who went into kickboxing & started merking guys. It sounds like these guys you are talking about were merely talented at boxing, but never pursued boxing in a serious manner before kickboxer if they pursued boxing at all.
I should have been more clear, but what I was trying to say is backwards. Think of it as "Big fish, small pond." You get a guy who would claw and scratch his way up...to maybe a fight with a known fighter at best... Or you go into a sport where your boxing skills go a much longer way, and your competing against guys who know virtually nothing of boxing as a pursuit in and of itself. Another way to look at it is like this:
[Link View Has Been Removed. Click Here To Unlock This Content.]

Kramer is Therault against a black belt full contact fighter who calls himself a kick boxer, but who knows just enough boxing to set up karate blows and kicks.

You also have to take a step backwards...Something like a traditional reverse punch is suicide against someone if both of you are wearing gloves and that person is a boxer. You square your shoulders on impact....so your whole body is towards the opponent. The reason this was done with the reverse punch is that is was designed to break and when used in combat one could grab the person being punched, etc. So what did kick boxers who were karate guys do? they shortened the punch up delivered it from the side position (chuck Norris style) and used a back fist as a set up punch.

Point being made here is that karate techniques change too much when being adapted to the ring. In my opinion at least.
