Well it means they hope they can make a few defences against lesser opposition and make that 5 mil over a few fights, or they're prepared to lose their belt now for a straight up 5 mil compensation for what they would have earned fighting bums for a few fights as a champ.

It's just smart business and covering their loss of earnings.

They are ready to sell the belt for good money, I don't blame them look what happen to that boyband Monroe.

It means they want the reward to match the risk. You can't offer Quillin $500,000 and expect to be taken serious. That offer was as ridiculous as Quillin asking for May/Pac money. Bradley getting paid more fighting Rios on HBO than Lemeiux fighting GGG on PPV. Somethings wrong. Tyson never had problems getting opponents because they were paid well and he was way more feared and dangerous than GGG is.

So far it means Team GGG/HBO don't believe their guy can be a big enough draw to justify decent purse money. Canelo and Cotto made well over $5m to fight each other.

If GGG is going to be a star, his promotional and television team are going to have to invest. Otherwise we'll get more GGG-Monroe type fights.

If you wanna play, you have to get in the sandbox.

This is big-boy boxing, gotta pay big-boy purses.
