roughly how long do u hvae to wait until a book is released on paperback?

After a book is released on hardback how long is it until its published on paperback? Im talking about a best seller, a really popular one.

Does it depend on sales or what?

Im going on holiday soon and dont wanna be carrying a big book around.

Either paperback is fairly quick to come out (if sales of the hardcover are brisk) or it takes forever and the hardcover goes on sale for absurdley low prices.

Normally 6 to 9 months. Bottom-line...depends on the intial sales of the hardback.

about 6mos probably if it's by a bestselling author. ive been lookin out on this new book by Michael Connelly, The Scarecrow. it was released in hardcover last Sept and it wont be in paperback till February. not sure if i want to wait but the price difference is more than triple! bad thing is ive just finished about all his previous books.
