  • Comments Thread For: Reflecting On My Father and His Love For Boxing

My father gave me many gifts throughout my life, some directly and some indirectly. My Dad taught me to always do things correctly and do the best one could and he put me to work in the agricultural fields of the Oxnard (California) Plains as a boy to teach me the value of a dollar.

Great article man I’m hoping I can be at least a fraction of what your Dad was

            Nice article Francisco.
There is not a better way to bring the human side into boxing, especially by paying tribute to your late father...This is as good as it gets.
I think most people reading will be able to feel your emotion through your words. Descanse en paz Mr Salazar.

Lovely, heartfelt article and tribute; but I picked the wrong time to read it. I was just getting to the end when the rest of the office was getting in from coffee-break (my turn to man the phones), and ashamed to say I threw out a few fake sneezes to cover watery eyes with "hayfever".

                  Quién sabe a dónde vayas
                  Quién sabe a dónde acabes

                  Y tantas otras cosas

Jesus Christ man, you almost brought to tears here.

I too watched Tyson/Douglas with my dad.

We were huge Tyson fans and when Tyson lost, I cried my eyes out.

It was the first sporting heartbreak I ever experienced.

It's crazy, that while I was watching in Indiana with my dad, you were 2,000 miles away watching the same exact event with your dad.

I feel so fortunate to have been able to barbecue for him & my mom and give him a card for Father's Day yesterday.

You never truly know how good you do have it until things get taken away from you.
