The money used to pay Social Security is running out. This would make it run out faster.

How about if we just make China pay for the next round of stimulus checks?

You may not even make it to retirement age so yeah I'd take the $ today over a future date in pretty much any scenario but definitely this one.

Do you not save in a retirement account?

I'm often shocked to find people I've know for years, intelligent rational people, who got into their 50's with almost nothing saved. I imagine that they were thinking pretty much what you said. It was almost like they were surprised to wake up one day and find themselves approaching old age with some pretty bleak prospects in their future. Don't be surprised.

Even a few dollars one way or another from Social Security might someday make a big difference to you.

Every month you delay your retirement increases your benefit approximately .67%. If taking the money costs you 3 months, then essentially you have decreased your benefits by nearly 2% for the rest of your life. If your monthly benefit check is $2,000, that's about 40 bucks a month, times however many months you have left to live.
