this is typical when you have both medicare and vet coverage.
if i only had medicare i would have to pay for some drugs.
if i had most private insurances i would be paying out my ass.
(very high rates) and probably share of cost.
vet insurance covers anything medicare doesnt when i go to a local hospital. and veterans medical insurance is free to vets that fought in a war.
if i go to a veterans clinic or veterans hopital then everythings free. they even paid for the taxi to the hospital.

the strange thing is the iraque veterans have a share of cost for everything when vietnam vets get everything free. thats not fair.

Insurance in the US, while private in most instances, is hardly entirely private, at least as far as funding goes. We spend over 10k per person, which absolutely crushes any other country. That comes to about 4 trillion a year or about 18% of our GDP. That is on top of the 70% or so of people who have private insurance. So our government spends 10k per person, in a country of 330 million, to insure about 20% of the population. And these are the bozos people want to run healthcare nationally. You have to be a special kind of insane.

As far as the question goes. Private care will almost always win out in quality and cost. Really the question should be. Are you willing to give up quality, and pay more overall in exchange for everyone having healthcare.

i pay for medicare health plan to cover me because not all hospitals except veterans health insurance as primary payment.

anything medicare doesnt cover veteran administration picks up the tab.

if i only got $900 a month from social security then medicare would be free.
Thanks for the info, mate (Buddy, FY) that's interesting to know.

How much does the medicare cost if you don't mind me asking?

I heard a tale from someone (who wasn't a vet) who inherited a house but had to sell it to pay for cancer treatment.

If 'free healthcare' means a death sentence I'd rather pay my co-pay. Sorry Brits you lose again.
Well I guess you could do both options - use your private for the vital stuff, use the free for the minor things.

But that's obviously an exception rather than the norm (I would hope)... her vagina was probably so massive that they couldn't examine it all.

I dunno about you guys, but whenever I see someone's died in the news, I always play a game of "would I have shagged them when they were alive?"

In this case, I'm not sure.

From what I have heard from Brits and read for myself, the healthcare system in the U.K. is subpar. Mostly for the long wait times and ratio of doctors to patients. That said, I've noticed that wait times for appointments in my area have increased drastically. Appointments for specialists can take a couple to a few months depending upon your provider. The healthcare system is saturated with so many new arrivals to the country and unhealthy and obese people who don't take care of themselves. Emergency room wait times have always been ridiculously long here because of all of the immigrants who use the ER for their kids sniffles and scrapes on their knee or the hypochondriacs who self-diagnosed themselves on Google and now think they are dying.

If I had to choose I'd still rather get critical care in the U.S. by doctors who were educated and trained in the U.S.

Obviously ANY private health care is going to be superior to free state healthcare (and we do have that option too) but the state of the NHS is exaggerated in the media.

It IS suffering from funding cutbacks lately, it's horrible, but to read in the news, you'd think it was like this for treatments:

Yeah I mean, I'm not reading about people dropping dead left and right in the U.K. or that their life expectancy has dropped. I'm sure they have better healthcare than at least 75% of the world.

The big thing here in the states is that once doctors/hospitals see that you have good health insurance, they want to order up a lot of unnecessary x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, scopes, and even surgeries. An estimated 30-40% of scans are unnecessary here in the states because hospitals need to pay for all that technology and $400 doctor visit charges. Not to mention all the deadbeats who skip out of paying their ER bills.

Whenever I go to the dentist (which is, I believe, partly subsidised by the NHS, but does require payment) they always try to get me to have all the X-Rays, etc., just to make the most out of that .

I realise I've set myself up for a "British teeth" routine there...
