Martinez made the most of his career, considering he had a late start. It was pretty sad to see his career end the way it did, but he still had a good run.

Calzaghe could have done a lot more earlier in his career. He has a record number of defenses, but spent years fighting at home against mandatories and no hopers. That Kessler win followed by money fights against Hopkins and Jones was a good way to end his career though.

Overall Martinez was an overachiever, while Calzaghe was an underachiever.

Totally different style. Calzaghe has a very unique style. Martinez defensive work could be compared somehow, but not a lot. Calzaghe would swarm you, be on you all the time, no rest. Martinez fights more slick, avoids engagements and steps back.
