That was a while ago when he was arguably the most disliked sports person in the UK, no press would write anything in a positive manner. Coming off the back of his quotes about gays and whatnot.

Since then he has become a lot more popular, is on TV shows and been portrayed in a good light by the media.

His comeback fight against a nobody sold out the same arena he was meant to fight Wlad in. So it shows that his popularity took a massive upturn.

Different times now. Fury is a far bigger name worldwide than Spence or Crawford, itís not even close.

Bob must be senile or crazy as Hell for overspending on a fight that hardly anyone will watch. This fight will be blacked out and won't be even televised nationally or on ESPN.

It's being broadcast and streamed over the internet on its ESPN+ platform. Well the good news is, it's not Top Rank's money that he is pouring down a bottomless hole it's ESPN's.

This fight won't increase ESPN+ Subscription base.

If he's become that much more popular why isn't he fighting in the UK in a sold out arena instead of fighting in the US in a scaled back half empty arena? Where are all these UK fans traveling to see him?

Thatís what a lot of people on here fail to grasp about these deals.

They will overpay for these kind of things, if they expect to recoup down the line. Canelo v Fielding barely generated anything compared what what he got paid, just a gate and some subscriptions, most did a free trial. But they expect to make it back down the line in bigger fights.

No doubt Floydís showtime deal was the same, He was getting paid $30m+ to fight guys like Guerrero, because they knew they would get the Pacquiao fight down the line.

Because he got offered a big money deal with ESPN, so he’s fighting where they are based.

We know how ticket pricing differs from the UK and USA and revenue in general. A half filled arena in vegas probably generates much more than a full arena in Manchester. That’s why big fights at the T-Mobile or MGM Grand do about 3x the revenue that AJ’s wembley fights do, despite the audience being 4x less in Vegas.

Nobody is saying he’s got AJ level popularity in the UK, but his popularity is far, far greater than it used to be, hence him selling out the Manchester Arena fighting a bum on his comeback and he’s only got more popular since then but money talks. If ESPN can pay more than what he gets in the UK, then he’s going to fight in USA. It’s no secret that’s where the real money is made.

This should not be a PPV fight, unless they are counting new ESPN subscriptions in that figure.

Not at the prices his tickets are going for

These tickets are probably 70% off today.

And why aren't the Brits traveling to see him?

I know some that have travelled over. I have no idea how many are in general though.

But as i said, if heís not more popular now, how did he easily sell out the manchester arena against a nobody? The same place that he was struggling to sell out against Wlad when his public image was at a low.

Anyway, nobody on here has claimed heís some superstar, but heís certainly more known than Crawford or Spence. Literally nobody outside of hardcore boxing fans know them.

Tyson Fury is a household name in the UK, not always for the right reasons. You could say heís more infamous than famous. Walk down the street in the here in the UK and anybody will know who he is. You canít say that for Spence or Crawford in their country. Theyíre excellent fighters with no real profile.

Fury’s ESPN+ deal pays him $80M over five fights. It’s been well publicized and reported. I don’t see why this is so hard to figure out.

All that has to be filed with the commission is the purse. The total compensation for fighters on contracts is almost always higher than the purse.
