How do they know who's christian? I doubt people are devoted now as they were back then so they have no problem with lying.

Japan back in the day when they outlawed Christianity used images of Jesus and made people step on it. Those who did not were identified and some were tortured until they switched religions and those that still didn't were killed. That's some devotion.
