Default Staying on your toes

How important is it to stay on the balls of your feet when in a match? Should you be up high enough that your heels are off the ground?

The more you're on the balls of your feet, the easier you will fall when hit. You need some stability. Some gifted freaks get away with floating around the ring but it's a mistake to mimic someone who is naturally far more athletic. Mimic the guys who have the best form.

Yup, Felix Trinidad used to get dropped because he wasn't steady on his feet.

Tito had one of the weirdest chins. It seemed like he could be dropped in the early rounds easily and then later in the fight he would walk through huge punches.

He usually would be bouncing around on the balls of his feet when decked.

No it simply means to stay on the balls of your feet. you don't want to be on your tippy toes and get hit and get knocked down.

it basically means just to be mobile. The best fighters in the world and of all the time all we're on the balls of their feet and they used their Footwork to hit and not get hit.

Obviously quick movements (when not punching) will be somewhat up on the balls of the feet. When you punching or in the thick of an exchange, you want to be as stable as possible and not up on the balls of the feet. You need to punch and then move. Think about where you're gonna move after you throw to get out of the way of the counter or get in better position. If you're just dancing around like a fairy the whole time this is not good.
