  • Comments Thread For: Ruiz: What I Weighed Doesn't Matter; Wanted To Be Little Heavier

Andy Ruiz Jr. thought he would weigh in six or seven hours earlier Friday than when he and Anthony Joshua actually stepped on the scale in Saudi Arabia. By the time arrived for their official weigh-in late Friday afternoon, Ruiz already had eaten multiple meals and drank a lot of water. That's among the reasons the defending IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO champion didn't bother taking off his sombrero, clothes or sneakers when it was his turn to get on the scale.

Ruiz weighs in reality between 270-275.

It is unprofessional at this level to be that out of shape.

Yes, Ruiz can punch and he can box and bang AND there's an argument that the extra weight benefits him BUT there are limits to this...

I don't know, that's a lot of weight. Ruiz has got stamina, it's just a question of can he fight at the quick pace he needs to for this rematch. He'll want to lean all of that weight onto Joshua and tire him out. Hopefully Ruiz is still hungry, no pun intended, to win again, and hasn't just felt well, he's getting another good payday, and take the money and enjoy life with the family.

Ruiz has that extra confidence because he knows that he can hurt, drop and stop Joshua. And Joshua will be even easier to hurt this time with that weight loss.

Too much has been said about the boxers' WEIGHT in the rematch, not enough about tactics and respective boxing styles.

I don't think weight is a deciding factor in this fight, but tactics.

He said weeks ago he was losing weight. He failed, couldn't be dedicated leading up to the biggest fight of his career. What a fat joke.

The thing is he is worse when he is lighter. Even his former trainers like Roach said that he should stay at the same weight like in the first fight. Ruiz said it himself he feels stronger with more weight.
