Greatest punchers of the 21st century

Its often been speculated that there are far less true punchers in the sport today as there were in years past. In fact i believe i read a quote from emanuel steward shortly before his death where he said there were no real A-level one punch guys around today.

So since the year 2000, who are the greatest punchers in the sport?

Off the top of my head, Id have to say Pacquiao, can't really think of anyone else who has scored one punch KOs over a calibre of fighter such as a Ricky Hatton.

Kostya Tszyu as well maybe?

W. Klitschko yes, but his calibre of opposition is average, plus his best wins came via decision (Povetkin and Haye)

Tito came to mind, but his best work came before the year 2000.

Yeah he has to be there, but his opposition so far doesn't really justify such a ranking. Im a big believer in GGG, but we need to see him starch a top guy with a proven beard.

For example if he laid out Chavez Jr, that would give him huge leverage as a remembered puncher.

Yeah I agree. His opposition hasn't been the greatest but he is fighting top 10 guys and dispatching them.


I want Murray to take him into deep waters though, so we can see the full arsenal.

I can see Murray lasting a decent few rounds, but I think he is just going to serve as a canvas for GGG to paint on basically, if you know what i mean. his style is relatively basic, I think GGGs power will force him behind that turtle shell, and from there we are just gonna see GGG pick and prod until he finds that sweet spot or just overall breaks him down.

So in that sense we will definitely see a lot of his arsenal imo, he's gonna have to get a bit creative to bust up that turtle shell so i expect plenty of footwork angles, and punches of varying power from different angles. I have a vision of G going tap tap upstairs and then slamming home a body shot to end it.


We need to see this guy in with a Cotto or Ward. He's too talented for the guys he's been fighting, it will seriously sadden me if we dont get to see him in his prime vs another A level fighter.

Bit out of left field maybe but Vic Darchinyan? Had some pretty brutal KOs at 112 and his win over Mijares at 115 was a wonderful knockout. Big power for a little man Vic had, and crazy awkward style too.

Lewis and Oscars best work was before '00 too, although Oscar did have some good Kos over Vargas and Mayorga.

Mosley..yeah but idk if he's a true one punch guy. That said his stoppage of Margs was very impressive.

Forgot Donaire, he needs a mention.

Maybe JMM as well? Not a brute force puncher, but a good one, and his accuracy and timing makes him a deadly puncher. That KO of Manny was freaking perfection. Plus the uppercut that laid out Juan Diaz.

Randall Bailey, Ricardo Torres, Lucas Matthysse,Arthur Abraham, Nonito Donaire, David Haye, Diego Corrales.




I would also put Kovalev and Stevenson on that list right now.


That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure there are more.
