No, JMM and Canelo, who are far better boxers than Marcos, tried to do it and ended up looking foolish. Maidana's best bet is to go awkward caveman on Floyd and try to make it an ugly and uncomfortable fight from the get-go.

Oh, Canelo is definitely a superior boxer to Maidana. I mean, it's pretty obvious even to the untrained boxing fan.

Don't forget that Maidana was nearly outboxed by ancient Erik Morales, outboxed by Khan for most of the rounds, and shut out by Alexander. He's improved boxing-wise, but it's not his forte and his strengths have always laid in being an aggressive, awkward fighter. He didn't make Ortiz quit, have Khan doing the Bambi dance, or stomp out Broner by being a "smooth" boxing technician.

Using Lara in a purely hypothetical scenario with Canelo is not a very strong example.
