  • Is this slavery? Judge orders federal workers must report to work unpaid

By definition, if you are being forced to work without pay, isn't that slavery?

"The plaintiffs in the case argued that being forced to work without pay is against the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery. They also asked that the judge prevent them from being retaliated against for not showing up to work and asked them to allow workers the ability to find other means of income while they are not being paid."

Indeed it is slavery, unless it is something that is required to pay debt though.

Edit: So the article. Yep, it is slavery.

I’d say it’s a textbook definition of slavery.

Does that make me a slave until every other Friday?

Yeah but what if they skipped a couple of those Fridays you were supposed to get paid and told you to keep coming to work as usual, and you'd get your money eventually. No date for when you get your money, but just eventually. But keep working like normal until then, could be a week, could be a month, could be six months, could be a year.

People have to pay their rent buy groceries and provide for their family. So how is that going to happen if they don't get paid? Can't the senate and congress overrule the President?
