Thanks for the Royal Blood recommendation, they rock. Kind of remind me of The Black Keys. I just saw an ad that said Greta Van Fleet is appearing in Saturday Night Live this week, by the way. I'm gonna see if I can set my DVR for that one.

Rock, Hard rock and somewhat metal. Its fronted by a female with a great voice. New Modern Love is catchy and she does an excellent vocal on a song called A Familiar Taste Of Poison.

Actually the metal band that i was thinking of is call Alestorm. 😂

I was in the music industry and I'll give it to you 100%: rock is dead because of economics.

When all the money flooded out of the industry in the mid-2000s, the clock started ticking. Damn near every big rock band in history were guys from a working class background, and without advances from labels, income from selling records DIY or indie labels, it became harder and harder to get a band going.

Think of all the costs associated: equipment, a van, studio time, management and a booking agent, etc etc etc in addition to a band being four-five guys who, if you really get going, can't have full-time jobs. That's a ton of overhead.

Meanwhile, look at rap music and EDM: you can make professional quality music in those genres while living with your mom and working at KFC. Hell, you don't even need a job, you can literally make pro-quality stuff with pirated software for free. You can go on tour with just yourself and some MP3s on your phone. There is no investment but time.

The music being produced as such a minimal cost results in a greater return on the investment, and thus artists, labels, and everyone else have nothing but incentive to work in those genres.

There is zero incentive to make music as a band now. So what's left is, in my opinion, a bunch of middle class guys making rock music for vanity reasons. So much of this hipster-rock stuff, like it or not, is made by bands whose parents pay their rent. Its a completely different universe in the rock landscape than a decade ago.

The genre is dead.

well that's suck, so that is why there are very little new blood in rock music nowadays.

I'm always listening to newer music via several podcasts & every kind of music I've ever heard & some that I've never heard exist (still) I promise you. Just cuz its not on the pop top 40 charts don't mean sh^t except its not as popular as it was. Maybe it'll get back to the top 40 one day or maybe it won't but its out there.

Basically, if you're a rock/metal band that caught on before or around 1999/2001, you are more than likely still one of the biggest bands in the world today. Look at any bill for a major rock festival today and they are usually always headlined by old legacy acts from the 60's- early 00's, while bands who have been grinding for 20 years are still playing the side stages and in front of empty seats for peanuts.

Some of the best and most creative rock and metal music is being produced today. You gotta dig deeper to find it and for most they are lucky to even break even when they come home from tour. You can't make anything off music sales anymore so touring is the only way to make money. It costs a lot to lug equipment city to city and your label and the venue gets a cut of your merch sales. Brutal times for bands these days.
