Lets get a feel how good Jess Williard was? I'm not sure myself,so I would like your input on this post.

Is Williard better than Chuck Wepner?

Is Williard better than Joe Bugner?

Is Williard better than Tex Cobb?

Is Williard better than Gerry Cooney?

Is Williard better than Ernie Terrell?

The word better can be interpreted differently. Willard clearly accomplished more by being undisputed heavyweight champion by beating Jack Johnson. But if they were to have fought each other, the only one I'd give Willard a good chance against would be Wepner. Maybe Cooney because he lost every big fight he was ever in, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I dunno.....Cobb had a great chin but little real ability outside of that.

Willard is easily better than Cobb and Wepner. I'd rate him over the rest as well but they're at least in his league.

I actually think that Cobb was a bit underrated. But I admit that it has more to do with my disdain for Jess Willard.

could Wepner, Bugner, Cobb, Cooney or Terrell have beaten Jack Johnson

You can use that same logic to defend Leon Spinks. After all, he did beat Muhammad Ali. Johnson was old, tired, and ready to be taken. A few years earlier Willard wouldn't have even been competitive.

Spinks is not comparative to Willard

True. But Spinks beating a tired old Ali is comparable to Willard beating a tired old Jack Johnson.
