Squats would be more beneficial for athletic performance and a HELL of a LOT lest taxing on the young guys body.
Squats will significantly increase vertical leap.

yea i make him to jump squats alot
i got him doing inclined push ups here

He's got good handles for a 9 year old.
I'd keep him away from the weights though. They should just stick to bodyweight exercises/calisthenics at that age, in my opinion.
