Kathy Duva: Ring TV, Mon Mar 12, 2018: “Kovalev’s still the man to beat. Whoever we put in front of him, he says ‘Sure I’ll fight them.’ Stevenson really has taken himself out of the picture, he doesn’t seem to want it. It’s certainly not worth anywhere near what it would have been then, and it’s not becoming worth more; it’s becoming worth less.”
This guy [Igor Mikhalkin] presented the problem with being southpaw, which has never been something Sergey’s comfortable with. You notice he has a very wide stance and he ends up stepping on the other guys foot a lot.
“That fight (Kovalev vs. Stevenson) is always hanging out there as long he’s active. Then to find out Al Haymon has found a way to kill it. There’s no point thinking about it.”
Kathy Duva's speech is inconsistent. She tries to show that Kovalev's ‘was and still is’ the Top Dawg in the division, by attempting to insert in fans mind that the other top contenders must fight each other first, in order to access him. Thus, Kovalev could continu to fight «orthodox» Uber drivers while buying more time to regain his loss of self-confidence.
Kathy Duva: boxingscene.com, Tue Nov 21, 2017:
“Sergey is the top man in his division. He’s the man to beat. Clearly, he’s gotta win the fight on Saturday to kind of put a stamp on that. But that is really the position he’s in right now. And the fact is, at this moment in the division, there’s no one else [other than Kovalev] that you’d have to say everyone else has to go through to prove he’s the best. Stevenson is irrelevant and no one is gonna claim that Beterbiev or Bivol is the man in the division unless they beat Sergey Kovalev.”
Kathy Duva: boxingscene.com, Wed Nov 22, 2017:
“His goal is to start again and win all four titles. And it’s kind of nice to start with the same one he won the first time, the WBO title. As far as winning that WBC title, I sincerely doubt that when the day comes he gets to fight for it that it’s gonna be [owned] by Adonis Stevenson. Maybe [Stevenson] will fight someone who could beat him, and then [Kovalev] would fight whoever that is. But Adonis Stevenson has proven time and time again that he has no interest in ever fighting Sergey Kovalev.”
Besides, she discredits Stevenson without reason in order to reflect a bias representation of superiority of her boxer, which already has registered 2 back to back loss to a smw boxer.¹
About the Kovalev Stevenson beef, she always tries to put the blame on Stevenson party, when she's the one blocking any process of making the Kovalev Stevenson fight a reality. Kovalev and Kathy are just trying to suggest HBO to not showdown a fight between Kovalev and any southpaws.
Knowing that at the high top of this division, we have Adonis Stevenson and Marcus Browne as the 2 southpaws.
Browne was mandated to fight Beterbiev for the IBF strap, but Browne still have the choice to reject that offer. And as expected by Browne co-manager Keith Connolly, if they rejects the Beterbiev matchup, Browne will automatically be setup to a mandatory fight against Kovalev. Which I highly doubt Duva and Kovalev want, according to Sergey Kovalev post fight statement on HBO, concerning southpaws.
About Stevenson, Kathy worries to assist one of these days to the down fall of Kovalev; when angry Stevenson will knock him down with a powerful body shot²; if Browne doesn't do it first.
