  • Whats Harder, Defending Against Punches or Takedowns?

With Toneys UFC fight coming up I was curious as to what would be harder. A wrestler learning how to defend against a boxers punches or a boxer learning to defend against a wrestlers takedowns.

Harder to defend from a good puncher than a good shooter, especially if you get to punch the shooter in the back of the head.

Punches, but Toney is shot to pieces and relies on a style that leaves him vulnerable to take downs anyway. Lets see him shoulder roll a take down.

Ask failed boxer turned superstar kickboxer turned MMGAY star Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic.Cro Cop was athletic enough to develop some great takedown defense which he was noted for during his prime. He remained a striker, but his takedown defense allowed him to snuff the best shoots from some legitimate top class wrestlers like Mark Coleman and Kevin Randleman.

CroCop has a head kick out of a ninja movie. He can take people's head off with one single kick. Not to mention he's actually in athletic condition. Unlike Toney. And I doubt he took on an olympic level wrestler like Couture is in his debut.

punces, they come at you faster. but takedowns if you've spent your entire lif defending punches

Not only did cro cop develop an awsome take dow defense but he also developed enough wrestling/ju jitsu skills to defend himself if he did get taken down. But if you watch his match against raining world HW champion Fedor you will see how easy it can be for a Wrestler/Grappler/Ju Jitsu fighter to nutrilize world class striking.

BJ Penn also has an awsome take down defense as well as his Rubber Gaurd that has nutrilized so many wrestlers over the years that you have no choice but to stand up with the guy.

You can't punch in the back of the head in the UFC

Trick question. They're both equally hard due to the multitude of variations.
