I can't feel sorry for someone who has made millions of dollars in their career and ends up not having enough money for health care and other post retirement expenses.

I think many boxers need to do more for themselves. They know they won't be able to fight forever yet they spend every penny of the millions some of them make every year. They need to spend only half of what they make and invest the other half in something like high dividend stocks and they will have a good income for life. They make so much money that they could spend a hell of a lot and save a hell of a lot too. Look at Cotto and Hatton and many other smart boxers who will die very rich men. If a boxer won't take care of himself why should others take care of him. They need to convince boxers to save some money when the money is coming in big time.

I've tried to push the idea years back of a boxers union, 0.1% of every purse would go to a union that would fight for boxer's right, care for there well being and offer them advice when needed. Do all the things a good Union does.
But it seems a lot of boxers are a self centred bunch only worried about themselves until it is too late for them.

The sad part is Boxing is full of leeches.promoters ,managers etc that use a fighter rob him financially while working with him then once he can no longer bring in the $$ they dump him like yesterdays newspaper & turn their backs on him. They are nothing more than Pimps. Its amazing how easy is seems to be to raise the millions of $$$ to pay Floyd & Manny yet boxing cant bother to look after its own
