Thank you very much. I was always that person who when i got into a hobby/subject that interested me I would go as all out as I could to learn what could be learned. I grew up in and still live in Davenport, Iowa, hometown of the recently released Michael Nunn. Old enough to very much remember the Nunn vs Toney fight and what was it's shocking outcome. Antwun Echols is from here too, but..... Anyhow, grew up at the right time to be able to watch Nunn fights, Jones Jr fights, and of course Tyson fights. Use to live on Tues night fights with "The Champ" Sean O'Grady, and whichever Albert that was with him. Anyway, I didn't keep the same level of attention on the sport much during my teen yrs, I liked being dumb more. Drugs, etc. Anyhow, 18 months ago my dad got sick and was dead within a month and I NEEDED desperately something that'd be capable of keeping my attention as the thoughts when my attention wasn't being kept somewhere/on something were of the sort that would have me back on the needles, well what goes in em more like, but lo and behold, watching men punch each other, as cliche as it sounds, maybe it hasn't saved my life, but my sanity is another matter all together.

Wow we have lived a similar life. I have always been full stream ahead on my interests also. I have a bookshelf full of books, but only 4 subjects lol. Boxing, History(Irish, American) and Poker. Have been a boxing fan since as long as I can remember(family thing)about 35+yrs. Also have lost loved ones somewhat recently and have had a hard time with it too. BTW I'm in MN and have met Echols at a fight there. He was walking thru the casino and I heard his name being called out over speaker, and there he was. I told him about the call, and then told him I had just watched his GREAT fight vs Brewer(one of the best comebacks of recent times). Then later after fight(Reggie Johnson v W Tayler 2)I ended up on the same Blackjack table and told everyone that was sitting there that "this guy was the hardest puncher B-hop has ever faced". B-hop had just said that in a interview, and Echols light up. He forgave me for taking the dealer bust card on hand before lol(had 9 no choice). Seemed like a good guy, and could really fight during his short prime, but was a terrible blackjack player lol. I'm real sorry for you loss, and glad to hear your now dealing with it in a positive way because we BOTH know the answer is not in the needles. Take care man, and maybe we can meet up for a fight sometime since your so close and they have been having quite a few somewhat big fights at the Armory in Minneapolis.

Again, thanks. Appreciate that. I had been blessed to make it til almost 40 without ever having to watch someone that close, not even remotely close, really, die. But anyhoo...
I'll tell ya one, maybe two more thing Echols isn't to good at: either wearing a condom, or just pulling out in time, Dude did an interview* in 2013 with the local paper "The Quad City Times" where he mentions the following...

"...He now lives in Dade City, Fla., with his fianceé, Alexis Smith, and four children, but Echols has had several girlfriends and lots of children. Asked how many kids he has fathered through the years, he ducks, weaves and gives the reporter one of those playful body shots.

“Touchy subject,” he says.

When pressed, he answers.

“Twenty-three, I think.”

I think? dude, truly said "I think" Nearly caused Cinnamon Toast Crunch milk to fly outta my nose

Forgot to mention your Echols at the casino story, then gambling at the same table etc is pretty awesome. That Brewer fight is highly entertaining, and it is a great comeback, especially considering how quick the turnaround was! I had to go and relook it up as I didn't remember how many times Echols went down and whether they were all in one rd or not, and borec has it as 3 times in the 2nd round, only to get the stoppage himself in the 3rd round! Some Rocky Balboa type boxing right there! I do remember the commentators (Showtime's methinks?) seemed to think the stoppage wasn't completely justified as it may have been to fast, based primarily on the ref allowing Echols to continue after going down thrice himself in the 2nd. Regardless, the fight is well known amongst fans today on account of the comeback element and not the stoppage. If I ever ran into him I would wanna ask why it is he was shaking out his arm , whatever one would call it, just previous to one of Brewers' knockdowns. Czys says something about Echols showboating, but I just don't see it.

LMAO. Wow can you just imagine the child support he must pay??? Funny that the writer mentions Echols giving him a playful body shot. He did the same to me when I took the bust card, no joke. Let me tell ya, even though it was almost just a touch I could feel the power, no kidding. I should have sued him lol JK. Yea I was pretty lucky too considering I'm the youngest of 6, but at 32 I lost my brother(he was my idol growing up) and more recently I lost my mother. It don't matter how old or how long its always REALLY tough. You have my sympathy and really glad you found a positive way to deal with it.

Yea it was a great fight. Now that you mention it, it does ring a bell about the stoppage. Also don't remember the "shaking out his arm" part its been a long time since I seen it. Now you just gave a good reason to rewatch a great fight. If it was after one of the KDs and before another one, yea that don't sound like showboating. Like I said though I will have to watch it again.

- -older fella I worked with had 25 kids by two wives.

He admitted he couldn't remember their names and prob couldn't recognize all them and what he could afford in child support was a pittance/25, but he worked his ass of and home every night with his 2nd wife, so they all knew him and where to find him.
