One of Jean Pascal's trainers protested the Maidana gloves (MX) BEFORE the Mayweather/Maidana bout. It's clear to see what's wrong with them.

With regards to Mayweather/Maidana, the first pair of Maidana's gloves were clearly used. When you use gloves that are made with only horse hair around the knuckle, its padding moves and it doesn't return to place. That's why the gloves appeared to have no padding around the knuckle.

The second pair were unused and therefore they were not disallowed by the commission, as the first pair were. However, they are susceptible to the same problem as the first pair. As the fight continues, the padding will move away from the knuckle and Maidana would be using his bare knuckles against Floyd.

Some other gloves use horse hair but don't have it as the only padding placed around the knuckle. This particular trainer that works with Jean Pascal mentions that he also makes horse hair/foam gloves, but he doesn't use horse hair around the knuckle.



It's clear to see why these gloves are problematic.
