BTW-Roy was limited on defense and relied on reflex and movement...very different than Floyd who is light years more technically sound than Roy.
Biggest misconception in boxing. Floyd is all reflex. Floyd 2-3 years ago would make Maidana look like he did Marquez only worse. And he constantly pulls straight back.

Excellent point. People act like Floyd doesn't use his reflexes...EVERY ATHLETE DOES.

Hell Pernell Whitaker was arguably the greatest defensive fighter of the past 50 years and guess what? Once his reflexes went, he started getting tagged. Same with Roy Jones. And it'll be the same with Floyd Mayweather.

Jones took years off his career and health by unnaturally dropping 20 pounds of muscle and his face entering the ring in the first fight was gaunt and his skin had a tint of gray. It was obvious he was too confident in his ability to readjust to 175 after going up to 199. Muscles atrophy and aging accelerates. The damage was done entering the 2nd fight. I'm not seeing the comparison and there is more evidence to support that a boxer more often than not makes adjustments and wins by a wider margin. But that does not mean Maidana could not win, just unlikely in my opinion.

On the flip side, if Mayweather is caught flush, it could happen. And what if Maidana comes in in better shape than before or with a better plan, anything is possible. Maybe the years catch up with Floyd, it happens to them all. If Maidana shocks the world, the balance of Boxing power would shift like an earthquake over night. It is hard to imagine seeing a graphic picture of Mayweather being counted out or stopped while bent over in the corner but that outcome is not impossible.

But Mayweather, if nothing more, trains like a demon possessed and few fighters over the last 20 years have had that kind of focus. When Mayweather trains, the energy, the confidence, the spark, the intensity is otherworldly. He is in his own universe and it shows. That is hard to beat until the body slows down and cant do that at a fever pitch anymore. That time may come, or may not come before he retires. If he does retire, he needs to stay retired regardless of who challenges him. Some day even the folks who don't like him will probably pick him over future champs and point out the reasons why those future champs couldn't hold a candle to him. Dislike many things he says and does but he is one brilliant fighter in the ring.
