I respect countries more when they’ll whoop someone azz for disrespecting the flag

Criticizing the government and leadership is alright but people are allowed to burn the flag

There are citizens that will. You never know.

That said, usually there are groups of folks around who support the flag burner when it happens. Idiots like that tend to get brave when they have back-up.

Because nobody feels like it belongs to them.

In 1900 that flag represented a small set of ethnic groups and their breakaway colony, so burning it was taken as a direct personal threat and got you beaten up.

In a totally multicultural, multiethnic country, nobody really feels like that flag is their flag. It's not worth getting scuffed over.

This also plays into whats going on right now with the riots.

From the BLM/Antifa/etc perspective, they're being allowed to run wild in the streets because everyone else is a coward and they run the show! The world kneels for a bunch of broke junkies with IQs in the low 70s!

This is of course a delusion — they're allowed to run wild because literally nobody cares what happens to Minneapolis, Portland or Chicago (even if they won't say it, most Americans would probably breathe a sigh of relief if those places were wiped off the map).

They're allowed to slur/target whiteness because few people passionately identify as "white" (they identify with specific ethnic groups like Italian or Irish or Jewish etc.).

Exhibit A: When they directly attack individual armed males they get their heads blown off and the news goes bananas. It's not cowardice.

It's just the basic reason multinational states always die and disintegrate. Every man for himself.

The country just becomes a public bench that belongs to nobody. As such, nobody wants to stop and pick old gum and cigarettes off of it.

The people burning the flag are old gum and cigarettes, and nobody is getting paid to beat them up.
