Thumbs down The difference: today's slaves work at Amazon and Applebee's rather than mines

Guys, let's be real. The reason the lower class is mad is that their work now is pussy stuff. Before they mined coal and felt manly about it. But who feels manly about delivering Amazon packages and serving pie at Applebee's?

Our society has changed and the types of jobs have as well. What kind of son feels like he grew into a man if he leaves home and works at Applebee's cooking hamburgers? But if he left home and worked in a coal mine like a tough guy, submitting to lung cancer, he'd feel like a tough guy.

You see? Times change and only idiots don't change with the times.

One big difference is that miners got paid well enough to take care of their families.

Coal mining is dangerous. And also, coal is the dirtiest of the fossil fuels.

Yes I realize that. It was a different time and we didn't know then what we know now. My grandfather did 20 years in the GM iron foundry and retired. You only needed 20 years to retire because of the dangers of that job. But that was the risk he took to feed his family. He died last year at 87 years old

Times have changed man.

My old man left school at 15 with no qualifications, walked onto a building site and got given a job.

By 18 he was a business owner and by 25 he owned his own house, 2 cars, and was going on twice yearly month long holidays to far flung places. My mum married him and never worked a day in her life.

Boomers era DESTROYED the economy, in their era it was possible for anyone to leave school, just work hard and be succesful.

NOWADAYS if you don't have higher education you don't really have much of a shot, and even if you do it's not guarenteed.

I ****ing HATE boomers as most of them sit around in their comfy middle class neighborhoods which they moved to in their 20s and call us Lazy *******s, "go on get back to wall mart for your 50 hour a week job on minimum wage"

I am concerned for the future because almost everyone i went to school with is pretty much broke, even the guys my age who have kids, you have both parents working 50 hour weeks for a combined wage that just barely keeps the wolves from the door. Back in the old days families were twice as well off from one wage from a manual labour job.

this is why this "neet" movement is growing, the next generation after us are looking at things and thinking **** it, it's not worth it to work, lets exploit the welfare system.

I agree with the red but disagree with the blue. I think there is more opportunity to make money now than ever before. But the problem is we're all taught you have to go to college and get an education. You end up hundreds of thousands in debt and a job that doesn't pay enough. But there are a lot of ways to make money out here without a college degree. But you have to do it on your own. You can't walk into a building and be set for life. And everybody can't work for themselves

They built that economy. Can't blame them for taking full advantage of it. You are lazy for thinking they should have left it for you instead.

This. There used to be careers that the lowest educated people could do to build & support a family.

Today 50%+ of people make ~$27k or less from my understanding. You can't build a life, a family on $27k.

Why don't you go get an education then? The world is changing quicker by the day. By the time you got w/e 2 or 4 year degree in your "new" profession that sh^t is gonna be outdated, being disrupted or being totally destroyed by some gig economy independent worker type influx in the talent pool or some other sh^t thats gonna lower your upside & increase the chances you fail or can't grow into a legit player.

Like it or not we are gonna have to move to some Basic Income structure or else everything is gonna collapse cuz if workers can't secure jobs they are gonna have less spending money & thus less money to spend at Starbucks or wherever & if that happens with enough workers that means Starbucks is gonna have to close some stores & layoff some workers & then we got a collapsing marketplace cuz that problem is just gonna multiple the situation with more workers without incomes to spend at Starbucks or w/e.
