  • UFC in hot water after streaming app crashed for PPV

So apparently the entire UFC.tv that streamed the Mayweather/Mcgregor crashed at 9pm ET when the ppv started. And remained largely down even for the main event. The servers were crippled and all the people who bought it couldnt watch. There are going to be lawsuits if the UFC don't issue mass refunds. Check out Dana white's twitter literally thousands cursing him out saying they robbed them for 100 bucks ruined their parties threatening to sue. Cable providers sold ppvs they couldn't deliver as well. But at least showtime issued a statement on behalf of cable and they were able to reboot the servers in time for the main event. UFC and Dana white still have released a statement over the cluster phuk over UFC.tv

So the next question might not be how many ppvs were sold but how much money they made after they are done resolving and refunding the millions who are complaining Sunday morning.

A number of viewers, who have paid $100 to watch the fight, reported a complete outage on the UFC Fight Pass system

      By Jack de Menezes

Fans were left outraged when a delay was announced for the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor because of pay-per-view outages in the United States.

News broke in the early hours of Sunday morning [Saturday evening in the US] that fans watching on the UFC’s Fight Pass were experiencing issues with watching the event live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

A number of users reported their issues on social media, and with the fight due to start around 5am BST [9pm PT] there were genuine fears that they could miss the biggest sporting event of the year, having shelled out $100 to buy the fight.

The UFC.TV server appeared to crash due to the popular demand, with users unable to load the site and being shown a 504 gateway timeout error instead.

Showtime soon confirmed the news, although they played down the length of the delay and hoped to proceed with the main event as soon as possible.

The statement read: “Due to high demand, we have reports of scattered outages from various cable and satellite provides and the online offering. We will delay the start of the main event slightly to allow for systems to get on track. We do not expect a lengthy delay.”

Mixed martial arts reporter Ariel Helwani posted on Twitter that an unnamed source has informed him about a potential delay, while ESPN also confirmed a delay to the main event.

However, broadcasters would not comment on the timings of the bout, with the undercard still unfolding at the time of the controversy with Gervonta Davis taking on Francisco Fonseca as the co-main event.

UFC president Dana White, who is in Vegas to watch the fight and close friend McGregor, had boasted in the week that the UFC Fight Pass would be able to stand up to the demand of the pay-per-view because the UFC “does digital better than boxing”, but Helwani’s comments did little to reinforce that claim.

“Being told of lots of PPV ordering issues,” Helwani wrote. “UFC app, cable providers. Potential disaster for the promoters.”

Damn UFC screwed the pooch there. Thats f#cked up & for sure lost everyone millions of dollars. Wonder what happened exactly for sh^t to go south. Weren't prepared for it or some internet nerds f#cking them or just random technical problems that happen.

Randomly I watched the fight at a theater & their feed went out for like 8 seconds during the Jack vs Cleverly fight & I thought we had all decided to burn down the theater via group telepathy before it came back on so I can just imagine how pissed these cats would be.

Somebody in the tech team did not calculate the traffic this fight was going to receive or the software wasn't probably tested ahead of time to handle it everyone hitting their servers at the same time. Same thing happened to HBO GO a few years ago for the True Detective finale and their server crashed and nobody could watch or use the app until the next day. But that was years ago and this PPV where you robbed folks 100 bucks a pop. Inexcusable. Cable and satellite providers lost service so not surprised hearing it went out at the movie theater. At least it came back for you. The UFC.tv completely crippled for the entire night. Lawsuits coming.

That is going to be a tough issue for them, and costly either way.

Either they pay out and somewhat mitigate fan's anger costing them million, or they keep the money and damage the brand in those fans eyes also costing them millions. It is probably cheaper to pay out now because most fans if compensated will be forgiving and will pay down the road. Pissed off fans that feel cheated will unlikely give them a dime again, which will take years to make up that sort of lost market base.

                  Idk about that.

I imagine when you are doing a situation like this there are multiple agreements with the profit split when a PPV is sold via Showtime, the UFC or a third party. So while Floyd is likely getting less money from a UFC PPV that sold vs a Showtime PPV that sold he's gonna take a hit for the UFC or anyone else dropping the ball or having issues.

That would be my expectation anyway. Maybe I'm incorrect in that assessment as obviously I didn't read the contract or anything.

Idk that they got a choice. They are gonna have to refund everyone with a reasonable claim or the bad PR here (+ exodus from Fight Pass) is gonna hurt and there WILL BE a class action lawsuit that'll likely f#ck them in the bank account + with PR.

So its a take one L or take two L's situation I think lol. Take the L not the double L. Easy decision here.
