This guy drugged and raped a young girl of 13, his legal team managed to argue him an incredible plea deal and instead of facing up to it he fled the country. I don't think that there's any question that a custodial sentence would be appropriate.

13 years old and from what I gather it was coercion. It was certainly inappropriate given that Polanski held a position of authority and trust over her.
