Miscegenation is a disgusting crime. That conviction should damn well stick. The south will rise again!

He was railroaded, pure and simple. And if it was such a disgusting crime, you must hate nearly every race, because history is rife with it.

The Mann Act was legislated in 1910 (as the White Slave Traffic Act) in reaction to a fictitious 'white slave trade market' supposedly run by Chinese immigrants in California. The Act served two purposes, to foster hatred against the Chinese immigrants brought in by the railroad companies and then promise protection from the non-existent threat it fabricated. From its origin the Act was race baiting for votes.

If one cares to, it is easy to see its commonalty with 'Trump's border wall' and 'Mexican rapists.'

My personal favorite misuse of the Mann Act: While it was meant to deal mainly with commercialized sexual vise, a wily lawyer, in a high profile divorce suit, got the Federal government to force the return a wayward husband who had scurried across the State line with his mistress. He wasn't indicted under the Mann Act but his appearance in court made it possible for the wife to serve him the divorce papers. (You can't sue him, if you can't get him back into the State.)

The law was poorly written and was misused repeatedly; a fine example of legal 'overbreath.'

About the only thing the Mann Act never did, was disrupt any Asian 'white slave markets.' There weren't any.

Oh, there was the Jack Johnson thing too. -- We should not pardon Jack Johnson, we need to be reminded of the wrongs we have done. The wrong done to Jack Johnson is part of his legacy, to pardon him is to try and sweep that wrong under the carpet.

To apologize to a man who has been dead for 70 years is a pointless act; this is just more self-aggrandizing by President Trump. You watch, before it is over, (as with so many things involving Donald Trump) it will end up being more about Donald Trump than it will be about Jack Johnson.

I wonder if Trump would have called Johnson "his African-American." -- Does anyone really believe Jack Johnson would want anything from this man?

Did Jack Johnson ever asked for anyone's approval? I honestly believe if the man could speak now, he would be offended by this.

Yeah, so he'll probably wait a couple more years so it'll help his chances at re-election.

The pardon is long overdue. But it would have been far more meaningful if he was alive to enjoy his vindication.
yeh there is the issue that since he did nothing wrong, he shouldnt be pardoned, though.

Personally a posthumous award is more fitting.

If justice was to be done, then reimbursing the fines he paid to his family would be a start, as well as posthumous "prosecution" of those who chased him.

The logical endpoint to justice would be going ALL the way back to slave owning george washington being posthumously discredited and his fortune acquired from slave owning removed from his family. Noone will do it. And its the right thing to do.

                    Yes.
trump might start better by apologising for labelling the innocents of the Detroit murders. Thats something he did badly wrong, amongst many others.

Put his own shyt right first, not distract from it.

There will be so much squalling that within a decade the name of the George Washington bridge will have to be changed to the name of some black 'un. What? No black 'uns named George Washington? I am sure there are plenty. The blacks will think what a nice ring the Martin Luther King junior bridge has to it.

Ol' Abe is an offensive fellow too. Blacks should not have to hear about his monument, after some of the statements he made about black 'uns. He jes wanted to preserve the union, he didn't care about black 'uns at all. The Caeser Chavez memorial has a much nicer ring to it, say the Mexicans. They would like the land back they stole from injuns just before us. Hear their unison cry--We stole it first!
