    1970 – Uganda disarmed it’s citizens, and between 1971 – 1979 they murdered 300,000 Christians.

Shall we get into more modern examples like Mexico where corrupt military and drug cartels is performing genocide on their own people. UK and Australia are experiencing HUGE increases in all forms of violent crime since severely restricting gun ownership. Syria, Egypt, Libya are all in turmoil with a disarmed citizenship.

You think a situation like that is going to happen in the states lol

They have laws to prevent **** like that happening, and I'm not talking about letting hicks run round with guns.

Even if by some sort of imaginary series of events, it actually did happen, good luck using your p shooters against your own military with all their kit.

    You lot are just mental

      US

Violent crime in U.S. rises for FIRST TIME since 1993 and is up 18% from last year

Violent crime increased 18% from last year
First year-to-year increase in such crime since 1993
Household burglaries also on the rise from 3.2million last year to 3.6million this year

According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics’ annual national crime victimization survey, the size of the percentage increases in both violent crime and property crime for last year was driven in large part by the historically low levels seen in 2010.

The increase in violent crime was the result of an upward swing in assaults, which rose 22 percent, from 4million in 2010 to 5million last year.

But the incidence of rape, sexual assault and robbery remained largely unchanged, as did serious violent crime involving weapons or injury.

The increases in violent crime experienced by whites, Hispanics, younger people and men accounted for the majority of the increase in violent crime.

In the latest survey, property crime was up for the first time in a decade, from 15.4million in 2010 to 17million last year.

The victimization figures are based on surveys by the Census Bureau of a large sample of people in order to gather data from those who are victims of crime.

They are considered the government's most comprehensive crime statistics because they count both crimes that never are reported to the police as well as those reported.

OK so because I am smart enough to realise let's do some research before I talk **** to the Yanks, it seems as though the 'Violent Crime' has gone up in the UK and Australia statement is from when Tony Blair was a damn PM.

Well it seems so because that's the source that talks about the UK and Australia...

He was a PM in 2007...

Violent crime actually fell by 9%:

There were 1.9m reported incidents of vandalism between July 2011 and June 2012, down 9.8% from 2.1m the previous year. Reports of burglaries, violence and bicycle theft also fell by over 9% each.

To the fools who look at pages with stats from 2007 or perhaps even before, there is a thing called 'Up to date'.

I find it hilarious that it's only people not from the U.S. arguing in this thread.

Either way, we've already had a assault weapons thread, no need to go over this again. This was specifically about Piers Morgan and the series of segments where he gets his ass handed to him, for your viewing pleasure (if you're American that is, seeing how no person from the UK or Calgary seems to enjoy it.)

Since Pier's is British or at least violent crime is mentioned, we British will reply. Stop listening to idiots saying it's increasing, Pier's may not know it because he is a double, but Violent crime is decreasing. Now what?

I'm not American and I am overly liking the Piers bashing along with bashing his stance :-)

But people don't care in the U.S; 500 crimes is still 500 crimes too many to someone of the view as the guests on Piers' show. Theoretically that's 500 people who didn't have the option of protecting themselves properly in the face of danger. Statistically it may look good going from 600 to 500, thus justification for your bans. Collateral damage of sorts that is OK since the stats show overall improvements.

Others (in the U.S. in particular) would say that U.S. gun laws are (or should be) the equivalent of Pro-Choice abortion laws. You having the choice to carry is what's important even if you don't. You having the opportunity to fight off an attacker with a gun (on a per individual basis) whether at your home or in public, is worth the price of higher "Gun crimes" or "Gun murders".

Or as the old timers would do, quoting Thomas Jefferson: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety".

Or strictly sticking to the 2nd amendment argument (which leaves no room for debate about statistics), whose proponents don't care about crime statistics but the intention of owning assault weapons, which is to fight off a tyrannical govt; even if that day never comes. But I'm not one of those people, as I don't even own a gun.

Taking away guns will not lower the amount of murders. You can try all you want to compare one country to another and compare statistics, but that only tells a part of the tale.

When you deal with different parts of the world, you are also dealing with different populaces with different mindsets. The US, Mexico and even here in Canada, simply put we are more violent in nature than most countries of Europe.

You could give everyone in England a gun, Murder rates would not change much than they are now. Take all of the guns away in the US, Murder rates would still keep pace. Here in Canada, with the heavy restrictions put on side arms, murder rates are increasing and of the murders with guns, the most used type of gun is still handguns.

Here is an article you should read. http://www.nationalpost.com/opinion/...4-87a6dc839460

For me, I would rather have the ability to depend on myself to protect my family than having a government attempt to take care of that for me.
