Boxing in a Street/Bar Fight: Useful, or not?

Why does this question pop up every month or so?
Boxing doesn't make you invincible on the street, matter of fact nothing does including MMA.
Street fights can and often usually do involve multiple attackers, weapons, unstable ground, being under influence of alcohol or drugs etc etc
But being in shape and knowing how to deliver punches with good technique, is obviously a good advantage in a street fight against someone who isn't trained. A boxer of some ability (more than 5-10 amateur fights) easily beats most guys on the street. An experienced pro/world champion who's been training so long punching is as natural as breathing? Thats someone who is capable of inflicting significant damage. Obviously the higher you go up the scale, the more dangerous, but even a little guy like Roman Gonzalez WOULD DEFINITELY destroy most guys on the street. Believe that.
And I agree with Larry bout vast majority of this forum never having a real fight. People I know who have had plenty of streetfights, always respect boxing as an effective tool. Only nerds whom have never actually had a fight would speculate about it being "useless"

When they are stepping away to clear of the lock, I land a quick straight right to help them take a seat on the floor. When they try to get up, a kick to the side of the head usually does the trick. Ordering more beer from the bar is next up on my list.

I had a street fight once and a guy actually dodged the hook of mine (which would have KOd him instantly) and he managed to tackle me, LUCKILY, I also master mixed martial arts and was able to break his arm in half with my arm bar. I actually got his bones outside his skin, **** was gross. SO boxing can only get you so far, that's why I have always trained in all combat systems.

Knowing how to punch and judging distance is the most useful things in a fight, you learn both in boxing.

Most street fighters throw punches but they just aren't as good at throwing punches as a skilled boxer. I am not saying boxers automatically wins all street fights but being a good boxer sure doesn't hurt your chances of winning the fight.
Being skilled in any form of fighting helps its not MMA vs Boxing here because boxing is in MMA ,its a form of martial art without the rankings ,the one disadvantage a pro boxer MAY have is they are trained within more constrictedrules and are used to clean fighting ive seen a pro boxer who was up and coming he was 6'3 250 and he got crushed by a guy he out weighed by about 90 pounds,it all depends but the focus isnt on PRO boxers its on is boxing useful ,of course i do different styles and anyone who doesnt at least know boxing basics is not prepared for a street fight win or lose at least know how to defend against a boxing style its the same thing with just boxing ,learn bat least basic grappling to avoid going to the ground, the most common thing used in a SF is the wild hooks which can be actually harder to gage than your basic jab /straight combo...sometimes using aggressive hooks does work better than the sit back technical approach ,the human eye is not made to see on coming side angles like a hook punch its also harder to judge its distance as it is straight ones that are more easily detected and better idea of distance ,the myth a straight puncher has advantage over a hook puncher is not always true, but thats another topic!Last edited by juggernaut666; 07-31-2015, 12:42 AM.

Knowing how to throw a proper punch and being fit is not going to hurt your chances, but nearly every d-bag you run into knows some MMA stuff now.
I think if you are worried about getting into street fights or just want to know how to handle yourself, you should learn some other disciplines. I used to only do boxing, but over the last few years I started training in Judo. I don't really get into many fights, but if I did, I would feel naked only knowing boxing.
