World Baseball Classic 2017

The contests have begun!

First game, Israel defeats host Korea in 10 innings. The game was played in Seoul
so it must be a huge disappointment to the country.

With MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred in attendance at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, Israel finally broke through in the top of the 10th. With runners on first and third and two outs, Scott Burcham stepped in against Korea's Chang-Yong Lim and slapped a two-strike grounder up the middle. Korean second baseman Geonchang Seo made a sliding stop to keep the ball in the infield, but he had no play on any of the runners, allowing the go-ahead run to score.

This pool includes Israel, Korea, Chinese Taipei and The Netherlands. Japan, Cuba, China and Australia compete in First Round play from March 7-1 in Tokyo. Next pool is US, Canada, Dominican Republic, and Colombia playing in Miami starting 7 March.

Pool D is Mexico, Italy, Puerto Rico and Venezuela compete in First Round play from March 9-13, all six games at Estadio Charros de Jalisco, PR.

Scott Burcham is from the valley (here where I live). He went to Palm Desert HS.
