  • a lot of you guys seem to forget boxing is a combat sport

this isnt tag and run. if damage doesnt matter then the fighters may aswell stick on 16oz gloves and wear headguards. some movement is alright but if u spend all fight on the backfoot then you should be penalised. Too many fannys on this website equate 'boxing' to running and making the other guy miss. youve got to land hard, significant shots in return. Thats the name of the game.

At the end of the day its a violent combat sport and thats why its so popular as opposed to other martial arts. People want to see damage, hard punches landed and knockouts.

so lets stop giving fighters pats on the back for spoiling fights and not engaging. You can outbox someone by fighting on the front foot, time to get rid of this lazy stereotype that the guy on the backfoot is 'the boxer' by default, and that the guy trying to make a fight is some sort of caveman. if both guys fought negatively then we'd all be bored ****less. Its easier to avoid shots when youre running away and not opening up with shots, it doesnt mean you are more skillful or slick.

And if you are going to trash someone in the build up you better not get on your bicycle when they bring the pressure, that makes you a ***** who cant back up your talk. real men stand their ground when theyve got a point to prove

early MMA/UFC had the problem of non engagement. Wrestlers and BJJ guys would go for the takedown and lay on top of their opponent and dry hump till the bell rings. Earliest MMA matches had no time limits, and BJJ guys would dry hump their opponents for hours...

I don't see this as big a problem as OP thinks there is in boxing, since boxing is a standup fighting sport. If a boxer just throws a few weak jabs and runs the whole match, he should not be rewarded with a victory. That's basically what happened in the Hughie Fury vs Joseph Parker fight.

I think landed punches should be scored. I don't think making the other fighter miss should score points unless you make him pay with landed punches of your own. If you land no punches you get no points from me. Making punches miss is it's own reward because you don't get hit and your opponent gets no points for hitting you. It's the same in all sports including non combat sports. In basketball you get points for making baskets not for making the other team miss baskets. In soccer you get points for scoring goals not blocking goals.

From a fighters perspective the goal is to hit the other guy without getting hit yourself, its a dangerous sport where people can be killed or suffer terrible disabilities latter in life.

Boxing is science and a battle of skill and will power the ring is a small place with nowhere to hide you either have the skills to avoid being hit or you dont , it has rules its not the Gladiators with swords.

Topic starter has never boxed and is the typical guy in the back row munching on popcorn wanting two men to stand in a phone booth and club each to death, a few years professionally boxing would change his mind.

Some people think boxing means two guys take turns punching each other in the head until one falls down and can't get up.

These same tools would rate defense over offense ****en lmao

they always use that stupid ass example of that old tool that won a round without throwing a punch. now imagine a fight where a guy does that for 12 rounds.

boxing would be dead. defense is never more important than offense until the FLoyd Gayweather era where blacks needed to big up their hero for his point fighting style.

this fighting style is absolutely disgraceful. Basically cowardly running away then tag. cowardly run away again. rinse and repeat. BOXING DOE!

my point is its not all about 'not getting hit' its a ****ing fight, throw some punches anf engage. If you're a good boxer you can engage and avoid getting hit in return. joe calzaghe was happy standing in the pocket, throwing combos and moving. He didnt run away all fight and he avoided taking punishment. Thats the sign of a great boxer. Not cowering on the ropes like a ***** not throwing, then talking a load of **** about your opponent after the fight

If two guys complete a round and one is throwing wildly and the other evading every thing nobody lands in this round , who wins the round are you going to reward the guy that continually trys but fails or the guy that continually makes the other guy fail, one takes skills the other wasted effort.

Boxing scores ring generalship, because to stop the other guy from landing on you and controlling what he can do and cant do is a form of beating the other guy.

In boxing defense must be rewarded along side landing because you cant have one without the other both takes skills.
