Why do drugs hit your harder in the AM or after a sleep?

OK so I got a herniated disc in my back (I think). Apparently from jumping rope out in the sub zero weather (among other things that my old ass does that I shouldn't be at this age). As a result I am having cat scan done tonight to be sure everything is what it is.

Anyway, I have had the last two weeks off with no exercise. As a result I have been taking prescribed pain meds and smoking a lot of bud. I have found that (I know, better late than never) smoking a J in the morning or popping a couple of my percocets in the morning have a much more profound effect on me.

Is this the case with everybody or is it just me?
