  • Syrian Christian family turned back at airport

Nice going, Mr Trump. You've sent PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS WITH VALID VISAS BACK TO THE MIDDLE EAST!

Two brothers, their wives and children left war-torn Syria with 16 suitcases and crossed the border into Lebanon. They were finally on their way to the United States after working for almost 15 years to join their family members stateside.
But after a flight from Beirut to Doha, Qatar, and then to Philadelphia on Saturday, the two families were told to get on a flight back to Doha. It was because President Donald Trump had just signed an executive order denying citizens from seven countries, including Syria, entry into the United States.

The Assalis are Orthodox Christians, one of the most persecuted groups in Syria. They were told by authorities they could either be detained and have their visas taken away, or they could take the first flight back to Doha.

    Trump didn't do it.

Some official must have made a mistake and thought they were Muslims.

        You should really start researching things before you speak;

This was Trump's doing. His executive order also applies to people with visas. It's about location, not religion. Trump certainly didn't include Muslim countries where his businesses operate.

        He's an evil man.

"As confusion reigned at airports, universities and businesses across the US, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that people with green cards, making them legal permanent US residents, were included in the ban."

"Here’s a roundup of the key events of the day:

Criticism of his “muslim ban” came in from all quarters including Madeline Albright, the former US secretary of state, Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani campaigner for girls’ education and Facebook’s chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg.
We received the first reports of arrivals blocked at US airports.
The National Iranian American Council (NIAC) described the executive order as worse than a draft form that had been leaked earlier in the week.
Twelve nobel laureates are among thousands of signatories to a petition calling on Trump to renounce the order.
A legal challenge has been filed against Donald Trump’s executive order by lawyers representing two Iraqi refugees.
Theresa May and the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, have signed a £100m commitment to build new fighter jets.
May refused to condemn Trump’s refugee ban when pressed on the issue by journalists at a joint press conference.
People holding so-called green cards, making them legal permanent US residents, are included in the executive action.
Iran vowed to take reciprocal action.
Trump spoke to Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, and the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
We spoke to travellers who had been turned away from flights and those who don’t know when they will see their families again. "

"A federal judge granted a stay on deportations for people who have arrived with valid visas from seven-majority Muslim nations, dealing President Donald Trump an early blow in the legal battle over his executive order to halt travel from a wide swath of the Middle East and Africa.

Less than 24 hours after two Iraqi men were detained at John F Kennedy airport in New York on Saturday morning, their attorneys and allies with the American Civil Liberties Union cheered the decision, which held that no one currently detained can be deported.

“Stay is national,” ACLU attorney Daniel Ho tweeted after the hearing.

“I think the government hasn’t had a full chance to think about this,” judge Ann Donnelly told the court, ordering the government to provide a list of names for people affected.

Donnelly said that anyone from one of the seven countries who was in flight en route to the US when the order was signed and landed with a valid visa would be allowed to legally stay in the country.

The ACLU estimated that between 100 to 200 people around the country had been detained prior to the hearing. Government lawyers could not confirm that number.

The stay will last at least until a hearing scheduled for 21 February, the judge said. Donnelly ruled that the deportations could cause the plaintiffs “irreparable harm” by returning them to countries where they had been threatened, and noted that the plaintiffs included visa-holders who had already been approved for entry to the US."

I feel bad for any families who turned back under threats from authorities; I imagine that, since they obviously aren't being held now, the federal judge's hold would not apply.

        What a bastard Trump is.

        He's getting impeached.

Hope this anti Muslim rhetoric doesn't lead to more radicalized Muslims in the future.

                Oh well...

We don't need ANYMORE people here.

Is this a family of learned doctors or something? If that's the case - I'm sure there's a way they can apply for a special VISA and be granted an exception.

Do they bring anything to the table to help America?

If not - sorry. Life isn't fair.

I'm pissed; I can't imagine how the people whom this affects feel. It's not about religion (for Trump), but he's doing it as a superficial, racist, bigoted measure against the Muslim religion and Arab people in order to appease his alt-right supporters.
