Canelo didn't fight for a world title between the Mayweather and Cotto fights, he was still every bit as popular and had big fights.

Winning world titles is cool, but big fights are better than world title fights.
True but giving up belts to avoid #1 contender is a bad look. Credibility suffers

Amir Khan just got a reported $13million for that fight, how many other fighters are going to net you even half of that?
I really doubt that 13m. That was best case projections , the fight did poorly

Not really, especially in this context when he beat a man who labeled himself not a middleweight. Canelo just shot himself in the foot.

The only leverage he now brings to the table is his mexican fanbase and his name. He is still a star but a lack of a GGG fight ends things for him as far as being taken seriously at 160 goes.

Pretty sure those were projections with ppv upside which ended up zero. His declared guarantee was only like 2.5m

He vacated to take away Golovkins leverage. Golovkin can either take what is given or no fight.

Canelo just long dycked the **** out of GGG. Welcome to the big boys world of prize fighting...we'll call you when we need to sell an extra 97,000 PPV's.
