  • - -Gold comedy watching SuperJoe discombobulate Popkins into a yelping kicked cur on all fours.

Even dirty Joe Cortez was embarrassed by the end in spite of allowing Popkins to lead with his head and clinch without warning.

    Coming to America!

        • Michael Moorer vs Leslie Stewart. Leslie gave him some trouble early on, throwed relentlessly at the times making some entertaining exchanges. Moorer knocked him down later on and then got the stoppage right afterwards. Entertaining stuff

Yeah, Hopkins could do things like: dismantle Trinidad and Pavlik, and go the distance against Kovalev, but then he has eye-sores like the Calzaghe fight.

How'd you like the first one?

I still wonder if Holyfield didn't get ambushed in that one. Bowe was no joke, but Holyfield had his eyes set on Tyson. When that fight didn't happen, I think his focus was gone.

Really, Bowe's no walk in the park. But Holyfield appeared a very different man in the subsequent fights... like he had woken up.

              • Napoles-Lewis I: Not the robbery people make it out to be. Lewis gained momentum, and defied the odds. But Napoles didn't shyt the bed or anything. He dialed it in too much. He wasn't prepared for Lewis' focus and composure.

Marshall-Charles II: Fun, sloppy fight. Horrendous film quality, but we're lucky to have it.

Ortiz-Elorde II: Carlos was a great fighter. Very skilled. One of the most underrated in Boxing history. Long before Mexicans had a big strong Ginger, Puerto Rico did it. Elorde was a tough kid, though. That guy knew early he would not win, but he refused to go down easy.

McLarnin-Canzoneri I: Jimmy didn't look like he was in this fight. I don't doubt that a lot of that was owed to Canzoneri's own abilities, but I suspect McLarnin, while still young and capable, was losing interest in Boxing. He had had a long productive career, but had had just been bested in his trilogy w/ Ross. Between having little more to prove, and no longer champion, it is likely he entered the fight unmotivated. While disappointing, it makes it all the more impressive that he survived the final bell. A very exciting and violent fight. Canzoneri just couldn't get him out of there. Even more to McLarnin's credit, he returned to win the rematch!

Walker-McTigue: Not much footage, but Walker looks ferocious. A touch crude, but definitely a highly effective pressure fighter that couldn't be discouraged.

Trinidad-Whitaker: As terrible as I remember it 20 years ago. Whitaker looked horrible. Horrible by Whitaker standards, at least. I still believe that Whitaker, had he never gone off the rails, could have beaten Trinidad comfortably at 147 AND 154 pounds. It sucks to see one of the best ever struggle like he did against Tito.

Foster-Ali: What the fcuk was that!?

                • Making a highlight video for Takashi Miura someday so I was going through some fights and taking clips there for the future. I watched these two

                  Takashi Miura vs Billy Dib
                  &
                  Takashi Miura vs Mickey Roman

Beautiful knockout against Dib and fun fight against Roman, and what a body shot knockdown there, he loaded it up properly

                  • Hagler/Leonard. Should have been a draw.

                    • Lomachenko vs. Rigo: Loma is unreal. I think Rigo would have beaten most men within his size range that night, but Lomachenko embarassed him. Exquisite.

Whitaker-McGirt I & II: I love these fights. Watching them after watching Loma really ruins it. But if you can appreciate them for what they are, they're the height of pure-boxing specialists duking it out at the most technical level. Everyone should see these fights. Amazing stuff.
